Kaat's Bear Wife Pole

This replica of a Tlingit pole with a female bear peering down from the top and bear tracks up the pole was carved by Israel Shotridge in 1985.

  • This one room clan house in Totem Bight is based on a model of an early 19th century clan house that would have housed 30 to 50 people. A central fire warmed the interior and was used for cooking. It had no chimney as we know them today, but an ingeneous roof design allowed smoke to escape.
