Mosquito Legend Pole

Detail from Mosquito Legend pole. Note the fine detail and artistic carving on this pole. Although the Village Watchman at the top of the pole is usually associated with the Tlingits and the mosquito legend is Tlingit, the Sitka National Historical Park guidebook (Carved History) comments that this pole may have been carved by a Haida because Haida carvers were considered the most accomplished and were sometimes retained by the Tlingit to carve poles.
