Wellbriety Pole
This contemporary pole (raised in 2006) is located in front of the Community Health Center in Sitka near the Sitka airport. The term "Wellbriety" is an expanded concept of sobriety. It refers to refraining from all harmful practices including drugs, violence, etc. The Tlingit name of the pole translates in English to "you are going to get well." The pole was carved by a Tlingit, Wayne Pierce, who is a recovering addict himself. The raven at the top of the pole is carrying the moon which signifies hope.
