"Honoring Those Who Give" pole
Nathan Jackson, Tsimshian Master Carver, is seen here performing the traditional Carver's Dance at the base of the "Honoring Those Who Give" pole during pole raising ceremonies on a very rainy day in August, 1999.
As its name suggests, this pole is meant to honor all those who participated in the founding of the Totem Heritage Center in 1976. The Totem Heritage Center is a museum operated by the City of Ketchikan. In addition to displaying ancient totems, it also offers classes in the arts and crafts of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures. This pole is located near one of the entrances to the museum.
